Syfte
The study analyses a personality description of a boy named Lars from a kindergarten in Norrköping in the early 1930s. The goal is to understand how adults viewed children, what norms were created, and how these norms influenced children's position in society.
Resultat
The documentation combined objective and subjective descriptions, showing a mixture of realism and relativism. The observer tried to give a comprehensive picture of Lars based on psychological norms of children, but this proved to be challenging. Among other things, the observer highlighted Lars' defiance towards his mother and the poor circumstances they found themselves in. The study shows that adults had specific viewing norms (the norms or expectations associated with how adults view and observe children) that affected children's opportunities for participation. These norms could either strengthen or weaken children's position in society. Furthermore, it is pointed out that the children in the kindergarten were aware that adults were observing them, and this could affect their behaviour and interactions.
