Purpose
The objective of this collective project is firstly to prepare a report for the National Board of Health, Denmark on the opportunities and barriers in preventive work with hand hygiene in daycare, and secondly to draw up some recommendations for possible interventions in the area.
Result
The analysis reveals a great potential to design conditions to enhance the quality of hand hygiene for childminders. Individual childminders have shown they are curious to learn something new about hand hygiene and they are actually eager to find out more about the topic. Groups of colleagues, including childminders, have proved to be very important for whether changes, for example in hand hygiene, are incorporated in daily practice. It seems as if consultative and management initiatives on hand hygiene are more or less non-existent. The analysis shows that there are challenges with regard to private daycare facilities, for example with regard to space and lay-out, It is also demonstrated that dividing the private daycare facilities into zones could make it more clear how hygiene can be managed in the individual zones. Finally the analysis shows that there is a need to draw up actual guidelines for the structure of the play area from a hand-hygiene perspective.
Design
Data collection comprises six participant observations from four different types of private daycare facilities as well as four in-depth interviews with childminders.
