Purpose
“The objective of this study is to examine how social pedagogues in the Norrmalm district experience the transition to a working procedure inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach. The study reviews the basic principles of the Reggio Emilia Approach, which involves: 1) Child perspectives, 2) pedagogical documentation, 3) theme work, 4) project work, 5) the pedagogical year, 6) the competent child, and 7) participatory democracy. In continuation of this, the study investigates the extent to which social pedagogues were given a part in the transition to the new working procedure, and their attitudes towards the Reggio Emilia Approach.”
Result
In the opinion of the carers, the transition to the Reggio Emilia-inspired approach has been fun and challenging, but it was difficult in the start-up phase. The Reggio Emilia approach has implied new content to the carers’ view of the child and it means carers focus on the pedagogical indoor environment.
Design
Five qualified child carers have been interviewed in the study.
