Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine how different learning environments in the daily pedagogical practices at kindergartens affect children's abilities and experience.

Result

The results indicate that children's ability to gain experience and participate in various tasks changes significantly during their first three years. In addition, the study shows that there is a positive correlation between the overall quality of the kindergarten and children's ability and skills in relation to problem solving and participation in pedagogical work.

Design

The study consists of a methodological study, a cohort study and a views study. The study is based on data that were collected by means of video footage, one-to-one interviews and questionnaires. The respondents included 116 child carers and 230 children and their parents from 38 different kindergartens.
