Purpose
This study examines early childhood education and care as a 'place' where care is of great importance for the development of human relations. The term ‘place’ is used as an analytical term for empirical studies: The study examines how children experience the sense of belonging, how they establish place affiliation and how they define these places.
Result
It is concluded that children create 'places' and that these places are important in terms of how each child (inter)acts. Places are social and thus part of the friendship culture, which in turn is part of the children's culture. Places at daycare centres can be seen as something that creates order. However, it is vital that all stakeholders contribute to establishing the order and the symbols associated with the specific place.
Design
The study is of a research synthesis nature.
