Purpose
This study is a survey of lifestyle practices, of various policies (for food and meals, exercise and physical activity, hand hygiene and children's social relationships) and of everyday routines in Danish kindergartens. The objective of this study is to examine the prevalence of various policies and consistency between policies and pedagogical practice.
Result
For example, the results show that 86% of the centres have a food and meal policy. However, they also show that the staff widely believe that they are partly responsible for the children's diets, physical activity and hygiene. Generally, there is a correlation between the staff's attitude towards responsibility and the fact that the centre in question has a policy that governs the area. The exact causal correlations and internal dynamics between attitudes towards responsibility, the presence of a policy and the actual everyday routines must be clarified in further studies.
Design
The study is designed as a cross-sectional study and conducted via questionnaires that contain a certain element of ‘what works'. Study is based on responses from 1,842 kindergartens and integrated centres for children aged three to six years.
