Purpose

The study explores what type of impact master’s education has on kindergarten teachers’ educational knowledge and practice. The research question is: What knowledge do kindergarten teachers with a master’s degree feel they possess, and what impact can this knowledge have on their professional practice?

Result

The results show that a master’s degree within the field of kindergarten education provides kindergarten teachers with deeper knowledge about kindergarten’s pedagogical practices and complexity. The education gives kindergarten teachers a greater sense of security when encountering uncertainty and various educational challenges. The knowledge also has an impact on professional practice and how kindergarten teachers engage with children.

Design

The study is based on semi-structured digital interviews with eleven kindergarten teachers who all hold a master’s degree within the field of kindergarten education. The questions that were asked focused on the kindergarten teachers’ experience of their own knowledge, competence and skills after completing their master’s education. Recordings were made of the interviews that were then transcribed and analysed along with the researchers’ own notes. This was done to investigate theoretical perspectives and concepts.
