Purpose
The study investigates whether the implementation of the concept Trille & Tumle – barn i bevegelse influences the organisational and physical framework of kindergartens in their work to strengthen children’s motor development.
Result
The results show that the concept of Trille & Tumle – barn i bevegelse led to significant changes in the kindergartens. It contributed to changes in the organisation of everyday routines in the kindergartens, as well as an increased focus on motor development. It also led to positive changes in the institutions’ physical environments and guidelines, which helped provide children with better opportunities for motor development.
Design
The study is based on a thematic analysis of data from questionnaires, interviews and observations from 36 kindergartens in Høje-Taastrup Municipality in Denmark. The coordinators from each kindergarten answered a questionnaire both before and after the concept of Trille & Tumle – barn i bevegelse was implemented. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three selected coordinators focusing on their experience of the concept. In addition, the data consist of observation notes from six evaluation days that the kindergarten coordinators attended.
