Purpose
The purpose of the article is to analyse the process of planning and establishing two interdisciplinary innovation projects in kindergartens and to discuss the design of the projects in light of local anchoring, involvement and skills development. The research questions are: 1) What needs do the kindergartens emphasise and how are the kindergartens’ partners involved in planning and initiating innovation projects? 2) How does the design of the innovation projects reflect the importance of local anchoring, involvement and skills development strategies?
Result
The results show that organisation, structure and resources are emphasised in the development of a research design. The article specifically highlights three aspects that must be considered to achieve desired outcomes: the importance of autonomy and local adaptations, the importance of relationship building and participation, as well as the need for competency support.
Design
The study builds on data from an initial survey, work notes, meeting minutes and transcripts of interviews with the kindergarten management team, a manager and advisor from the Educational and Psychological Counselling Service and head of Special Needs Education Support. The analysis is based on thematic analysis and can be described as a data-driven inductive study.
